Is baby aspirin safe to take during pregnancy?
I am 4 weeks pregnant. I had a miscarriage last November and spent 6 months ttc so I desperately want to avoid having another miscarriage. My doc put me on progesterone and recomended baby aspirin. I couldn't find baby aspirin on the shelfs so I asked two different pharmacists and both of them freaked out when I told them I was pregnant. I told them my doc recommended it and they said I should switch and that they would not sell it to me without a prescription. Please help!
Yes, baby aspirin is just fine. It reduces the risk of blood clots forming on the placenta thus reducing the chances of a miscarriage. Baby aspirin is an over the counter item and does not require a prescription. Look in the aspirin aisle for 'low dose' aspirin as there are several brands that now provide 81 mg. aspirin but don't call it 'baby aspirin. Your pharmacists do not have the right to refuse to sell it to you, but if they don't carry such a simple product, they are probably inadequately stocked on other stuff. Find another pharmacy.
Your pharmacists are WAY BEHIND on current research involving miscarriage. My doc recommends baby aspirin for most of his patients over 30 especially if you've had a miscarriage. At one time, there were studies that showed that mice produced malformed babies when given aspirin, but none of these issues have ever shown up in humans.
While you can use regular adult strength aspirin periodically for pain, regular use should be run past your doctor.
If your dr recommended it then yes it is safe. Go to a different store. It should be sold on the shelf. If not, Call your drs and ask for a prescription.
Aspirin is not safe during pregnancy. Why did he recommend it
I too have heard baby aspirin is safe to take during pregnancy to keep a viable pregnancy intact. If none can be found in the pain reliever isle or the baby product isle, I suggest trying a bayer low dose aspirin- the heart healthy kinda. Its like 81mg which is the same amount used in baby's aspirin. I suggest double checking with ur doctor, but I don't see the harm myself. Best of luck to you during this pregnancy!
You should really ask your doctor. I never took it when i was pregnant.
